Every major technology shift arrives with a prediction that work is about to disappear. The internet did not remove the need for people who could think, communicate, sell, manage, or decide. It did change which people could do those things faster and with better information.
AI is likely to follow a similar pattern, although the disruption may be faster and less evenly distributed.
The immediate risk is not a robot with your job title
The more immediate risk is a capable person using AI to research faster, test more options, prepare better, and remove low-value work from the day. That person may not replace your whole job. They may simply become more productive than someone who refuses to engage with the tool.
AI still needs direction and feedback
Useful outputs depend on context, constraints, examples, challenge, and correction. The person who understands the problem is still in a stronger position than the person who merely knows where the prompt box is.
That makes judgement, domain knowledge, and the ability to spot a plausible-looking mistake more valuable, not less.
The practical response
Use it. Learn where it helps and where it confidently wanders off. Give it real tasks, check the work, improve the instructions, and build a view of what should remain human-led.
“AI wrangler” may or may not belong on the CV. The underlying skill probably does.

The original exercise was simple: generate a believable city skyline containing famous landmarks. The outputs improved as the instruction became more specific and the feedback became more useful. That is the practical lesson. AI can produce quickly, but judgement still has to steer.
